st veronus still has wonderful tasty food. I especially love the stoemp. BUT they no longer have a lunch menu- which means having lunch here is now much more expensive than it used to be (ie. the stew used to be $11 for lunch, now its $18 off the generic menu). because of this- I likely will only come here for dinner now as Peterborough has lots of other reasonably priced lunch options. Interesting and varied new menu items highlight a new season in this well-established eatery. The three-course Friday night special I had was truly wonderful, exciting, flavourful food. A mesclum mix was restrained by slices of cucumber, sliced lengthwise and curved to form a holder for the leaves, the whole drizzled with a piquant apple-based vinagrette. The pork tenderloin entree was three large pieces stuffed with a savoury dressing that was so tasty and plentiful that while I finished the pork, I took the rest of the stuffing home. Dessert was a chocolate/caramel custard in a crunchy pastry shell, topped with fresh strawberries and blackberries. Portion size gave good value for the price which was reasonable for the quality. Presentation throughout was as artistic as any classy place in Toronto but the outstanding things about the meal, to my mind, were the number of homemade items (dressing, stuffing, pudding, pastry) and the commitment to flavour everywhere. Fajitas were fantastic but steak was quite tough though cooked to order - had much better quality steak, I am thinking..We both found the gravy to be very salty and lumpy, and the steamed veggies tasted odd. I've eaten in Many South Asian restaurants over the years, having lived in Vancouver and Toronto. This is one of the best South Asian restaurants, and definitely in my top 3 that I've eaten in (out of poss. 10-15). Their Chicken Korma is the best I've ever had, & other dishes worth mentioning is veggie curry, and their madras (chicken). Their lamb curry is also excellent. They use fresh ingredients, and you might pay a little more then say a "buffet" style in Toronto (ie 10.99 for all you can eat), but here's why : the chicken for example is white meat/chicken breast. That means a Big difference in costs, where many buffet style places & other cheap eats, ie in Toronto may use thighs etc. Know when you are comparing apples to apples. Staff are friendly and helpful! Highly recommend this place. Good, reasonable lunch specials during the week from 7.99 (veggie curry). Enjoy! Read more
